Basics You Should Notice When Concerning The Right Cemetery Candles

By Anna Katrina

For many people, visiting the graves of loved ones is not only part of their healing process, but also a matter of respect. Quite often, they bring mementos such as flowers and statuary, to leave behind on the headstone. Cemetery Candles are a popular choice of decoration as they provide continuous lighting.

This practice began centuries ago using wax products to keep a constant light on the grave to honor the spirit. However, due to the potential for spreading fire, most facilities no longer allow the use of open flames. Solar powered lanterns have become the alternative of choice in this matter.

Sometimes called eternal, vigil or abiding lights, these products ensure that the headstone is illuminated. They use solar cells and light-emitting diodes instead of filaments to create their glow. Excess energy collected during times of high sunshine are used to power the lamp through the night, during rain or on overcast days.

Light-emitting diodes have the capacity of as many as 100,000 hours of operation, which is quite economical. Dependability also makes them a worthy investment. They also have the versatility of having their glow come in various forms such a steady and bright, flickering to imitate a real candle, or amber for soft light.

When choosing a lamp for a grave site, it is important to consider the size and design of the headstone. Those with a ledge may be well served by votive style lights, though those flush with the ground may be better with a style that is staked into the ground. However, before putting any decorations out, it is important to see if the facility has any rules or restrictions.

These items have several benefits other than looking good and providing illumination. They are lightweight and portable, easily positioned and rearranged, generate no smoke and contain no harmful batteries. They provide reliable light for months without the need to be constantly monitored and pose no threats if accidentally knocked over.
