Getting Efficient Effective Wildlife Removal

By Essie Osborn

By the time you notice that a wild animal has moved into your home it is usually a clear sign that there is more than one of them to deal with. Trying to handle the problem on your own can be dangerous to both you and the animal. Whether the animal in question is a rat or something much bigger like a raccoon you will want to find an expert in wildlife removal to help you.

One of the first things they will do is find the entry to your home that the animal is using. Sometimes there are several places where they are coming into your home and all must be blocked to prevent recurring infestation. This is especially true when dealing with rats or bats. If one entry is blocked they will simply enter through the secondary opening. When denied entry, bats will relocate on their own without you having to take any other action.

Many of the larger pests such as raccoons create damage to your roof and will nest in the insulation. They along with squirrels and rats can chew through wiring in the attic and create a fire hazard. Some of these larger critters also carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans and their droppings can be toxic if left unattended or ignored.

Most companies that help with this problem will trap the animals and relocate them in areas that have been designated for that purpose. In some states it is illegal to relocate the trapped animals because the danger of transferring rabies to new areas is so high. These states use a technique of removing the animal and exclusion from the property by other means.

When relocation is not an option or not the best option many companies will use exclusionary techniques to keep the intruder out. This may be a one way trap door that allows them to leave but not return to the nesting site. Nets are also used to keep out birds and bats when needed. Another method is to spread the scent of coyotes or other predators around the location. This will cause the prey animals to find a new place to live away from your property.

Once relocated some of them will find their way back to your attic. Raccoons are very good at this and have been known to return after being relocated nearly twenty miles from where they were captured. Immediate repairs to the areas they have damaged to gain entry is important for this reason. The company you have hired to trap them will usually offer repair and clean up services as well.

You can cut down the incidence of wild animals taking up residence in or near your house by making certain that trees are properly trimmed and brush does not come within fifty feet of the buildings. You should not feed your pets outside and they suggest that you do not feed birds or squirrels in the yard. They especially warn against leaving food for wild creatures regardless of how cute they may appear.

With natural habitat shrinking at record rates some wild animals have no place to retreat to and instead adapt to city living. Humans have an obligation to help these dis-placed animals re-enter the wild and trapping and relocation is one very good solution.
